Description: This is an excellently running 4-53 Detroit Diesel generator. I'm unsure of the exact military model number and vintage, but I believe it to be from the late 50's. That's based on when the 53 series was introduced, and when the branding switched from GM Diesel to Detroit Diesel. It was built by Stewart & Stevenson, and it may be a model 54400, but I don't know for certain. The engine is in very good condition. I recently replaced the head gaskets on it due to an oil leak. I added valve stem seals at that time, and obviously adjusted the valves, and injector timing as well. This engine has a 4 valve head on it (4 exhaust valves per cylinder). The governor is a Woodward Hydraulic fixed speed governor, and it does an excellent job of regulating engine speed when loading. It actually seems to perform better than some of the more modern generators we have. There is a full safety shutdown system on the generator. Low oil pressure and coolant over temperature shut down via the governor. engine overspeed shuts down via the governor and the blower block off flap. All of those functions are performed with Cummins style fuel solenoids. The generator is controlled with a modern electronic Voltage regulator, and an automatic flash module. There are Voltmeters and Ammeters on each leg, as well a frequency meter. It is currently configured for 480v 3 phase, with 2- 50A receptacles, but I can change the voltage for you if needed. It is currently mounted on a custom trailer chassis. It has 2 - 3500lb axles with electric brakes on both. It has new wheels and tires, a heavy duty drop leg jack, new LED lights, and a 2-5/16" hitch. It's located in Nashville, TN currently, but I would not hesitate to pull this unit anywhere. It is ready to go to work. I'm asking $7500.
